Prayers for Lent that you can read during Lent and Easter

Lent is a six week period of penance and prayer leading up to Easter, starting on Ash Wednesday and finishing the day before Easter Sunday. Lent is supposed to be a challenging time for Christians, as this period focuses on Jesus’ 40 days and 40 nights of temptation in the desert, with many choosing to give something up for 40 days.

Here is a Lent Prayer that can help you stay positive and encouraged on your journey through Lent.

Most Loving God,

Thank you that you remain constant with us through all the changing scenes of life. Help us to trust you in times of joy and in sorrow. Be our shepherd in the darkness and in the light, so that we might be living beacons of hope for others.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Generosity During Lent

During the most difficult periods of Lent it is always good to remember at the heart of Lent and Easter is God’s generosity in sacrificing his son for us. The 40acts challenge from Stewardship is a simple way to focus on generosity during Lent. Our prayer is that as you ‘do Lent generously’, you’ll find that you are just as blessed in your giving, as the ones to whom you give. And, that even the smallest, simplest act of generosity can make a very big difference.

Generosity Prayer For Lent

As an encouragement through Lent as you join us for 40acts, here is a prayer to remind us how generous our God is.

Almighty God,

You showed us through the life of your Son Jesus Christ, that You are willing to do something different for the sake of generosity. Please give us hearts of compassion like yours and help us to be alert to those in need of Your transforming love. Help us to be ready to be changed ourselves as we reach out to others. Show us ways to restore our relationships, our community and our world.

We ask this, in the precious name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
